Francis Louise McDormand (born Cynthia Anne Smith, June 23, 1957) is an American actress. She has won numerous awards, including two concerts, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award, becoming one of the few actors to achieve the "Triple Crown of Representation."

McDormand received his education at Bethany College and Yale University. She has starred in some of the Cowen brothers' movies, including Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), Fargo (1996), The Burning Man (2001), Burn After Reading (2008) The Hail, César! (2016). To play Marge Gunderson in Fargo, she won the Academy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. Her other film roles include Mississippi Burning (1988), The Famous Painter (2000) and North County (2005), all of which receive Oscar nominations for the best-supporting actress. In 2017, he played a hard-line person seeking justice for the murder of his daughter in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which won the Oscars, the Golden Globe Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, and the BAFTA Best Actress Award.


McDormand first appeared on Broadway in the revival of Awake and Sing in 1984., and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a play for her acclaimed performance as Stella Kowalski in the 1988 resurgence of A Streetcar Named Desire She returned to Broadway in 2008 with the revival of The Country Girl, which led to the nomination of the Drama Desk Award to the outstanding actress in a play. In 2011, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a first play in Good People (2011). On television, MacDormand played the role of honorary hero on the short HBO series Olive Kitteridge (2014), which won the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Leading Actress, and the Outstanding Limited series as executive producer.
